Praise for this book

A wonderful book that helps kids understand and manage anger in a fun way. Hendrix is so relatable!

Important lesson here and Hendrix is the perfect dog to teach such a great lesson. No more shoes to chew on!!!

Look, let's be real, we've all had those Mondays where we feel like a tiny, furry ball of rage. 'Mad Monday' captures that beautifully, but with a dog. Hendrix's emotional rollercoaster is both hilarious and surprisingly relatable, especially if you've ever watched a toddler have a meltdown over a misplaced toy. The illustrations are bright and engaging, and Rocket's attempts at calming Hendrix are pure comedic gold. It's a fun and lighthearted way to introduce the topic of anger management to kids, and honestly, maybe a few adults too. Plus, it's a great conversation starter – 'So, remember when Hendrix... yeah, let's not do that.' If you're looking for a book that's both entertaining and educational, 'Mad Monday' is a solid win.

Hendrix the dog has a hot temper and gets a bit angry when he learns his usual Monday trip to the beach has been skipped. Maybe Hendrix just needs a “chill” shirt like Rocket? Okay, maybe not. The author provides us with an engaging story involving Hendrix, who experiences a few mood swings and does damage when he thinks he’s been forgotten and left at home. The illustrations are great at showing Hendrix morphing from a nice dog to a scary mad one. Thankfully, Hendrix has a wise older brother in Rocket who helps him understand and get things back to normal. This book cleverly defines a situation of uncontrollable anger and how to alleviate it. Mad Monday is a helpful and engaging experience for kids to pick up on anger issues.

What a wonderful way to help children understand and manage their emotions! I thought the title was really fun and engaging. Kids can easily connect with animals, and this approach makes it even more relatable. Controlling emotions can be tough for children, as they often don’t understand why they feel the way they do. Teaching them to pause, take deep breaths, and relax instead of reacting impulsively offers valuable life lessons.

Love the Hendrix and Rocket books--they really help your young reader learn how to recognize and manage their strong emotions.

I enjoyed this story, especially how it was told using two dogs processing their emotions and learning how to breathe. It is unique from other social emotional stories and I think kids will understand it and enjoy the story. The dogs are great ambassadors for good behavior and breathing through anger. Well done!

What a story for a family with a little pet! We have two. All the better!

This book highlights how much trouble dogs cause when left to their own devices and not guided by routines developed by humans for them. As such, it provides an excellent lesson for dog owners in how to discipline their angry animals and bring them into line. The pictures show the dogs wearing attire intended to highlight their attitudes.

An interesting page about Tasmania's floral emblem is included at the end. It says blue gum leaves, which are included in the story, can be used to make herbal tea. Apparently this tree has been introduced in many other parts of the world too.

Poor Hendrix is upset. Monday came and his Mom went out and left him and his brother Rocket without their usual outside time! Hendrix loses control of his emotions and does some naughty things. This story is cute and the illustrations are fantastic. A good story and message for kids about controlling emotions. Recommended.

Adorable story about how a dog learns to deal with disappointment and anger. Cute illustrations! I loved it!

This story teaches self control and managing anger through Hendrix a sweet dog with big emotions. I think children will sympathize with Hendrix and learn a thing or two from him. Recommend!

A lighthearted lesson for the littles, Mad Monday does an excellent job of showing how emotions can get out of control. When things don’t go as expected Hendrix turns into “bad dog” and some destructive behavior ensues. Fortunately the older, wiser Rocket is there to help with sage advice, and a clearer perspective. A great way to help kids learn how to manage their anger, and understand that things are working out just fine, even when they aren’t going as planned.

A nicely constructed story on how to control your anger. The text is simple and undemanding, and the central message is effectively conveyed. A useful resource for parents and teachers.
